Herrington Consulting Ltd was established in April 2005 and is a consulting practice that specialises in coastal engineering and flood risk management. As well as extensive practical and academic experience in this field we also employ state-of-the-art computational models to provide our clients with the best advice and design solutions.
Our client base ranges from small private developers, looking to minimise the risk of flooding to new development sites, to government bodies seeking advice on flood risk and coastal management on a wider scale.

Simon Herrington
Strategic Director
Simon Herrington is the founder of Herrington Consulting and has over 16 years of experience in coastal engineering and flood risk management in both the private and public sector and is a Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM). As well as gaining extensive experience in coastal process modelling, detailed design of coastal and maritime schemes, construction supervision, and flood risk management, he was also a member of the steering group responsible for the development of Defra's Procedural Guidance for Shoreline Management Plans (SMP).
Simon Herrington is currently a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers Maritime Engineering Advisory Panel and is also the Technical Secretary to the South East Coastal Group.
Simon Maiden-Brooks
Technical Director
Simon Maiden-Brooks specialises in developing the numerical modelling division of Herrington Consulting and he became a Partner in Herrington Consulting in 2011. Simon has a Masters degree in Environmental Coastal Engineering, an honours degree in Ocean Science with Underwater Studies and is also a Member of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM).
With over 10 years experience in both the public and private sector, Simon's extensive experience in coastal process modelling, 1D hydraulic and 2D hydrodynamic modelling, ensures Herrington Consulting delivers exceptional results using the most cutting edge numerical models on the market. Simon's comprehensive background in water science, hydraulic engineering and numerical modelling has helped our clients realise the full development potential of some very challenging sites within flood risk areas.
Claire Herrington
Finance Director and Office Manager
Claire is responsible for managing the practice’s accounts, procurement and commissioning activities. Claire is the primary contact for most clients and provides a friendly and personable service, answering all financial queries. Claire is also responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the office.
Alison Bear
Coastal and Flood Risk Analyst
Alison holds a first class Masters degree in Earth and Ocean Sciences from the University of Waikato, New Zealand. With extensive experience in sediment transport, hydrodynamic and morphology modelling in marine environments Alison provides analytical expertise to the coastal services provided by Herrington Consulting. Alison has professional experience working in both the public and private sectors within the UK and she is currently working towards becoming a Chartered Scientist with the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM).
